A printer that is connected to the computer via a parallel interface. In general, a parallel connection can move data between devices faster than a serial connection can. The parallel interface is preferred in the IBM PC world because its cabling is more standardized than that of the serial interface and because the computer's operating system assumes that the system printer is attached to the parallel port.
